So, since I got my 67 XR7 fuel sender repaired a few years ago, and since the car is back from sheet metal, I want to reinstall the tank, as I work my way around the car. Is it required, or even a good idea to put some sort of non conductive barrier material between the fuel tank, and the hole where it goes around the edge? I had read that it was, and so years ago when I bought the new tank, I had a thin, roofing material as a static barrier.
Second question- is there an alternative, either source, or option, for the tool used to reinstall the torsion rods for the trunk lid? I looked at WCCC, and NPD, and both were out, with no expected date.
The tank mounting bolts provide the ground needed by the fuel sender, so make sure they are not corroded and that the bolt heads bite into the tank flange.
The factory used rope caulk to seal around the tank flange, and also on the stiffener board under the spare to adhere it to the tank top.
