I’m in Charlotte after the first day of Hot Rod Power Tour 2019. Unfortunately I didn’t get my car done in time. I did see three Cougars yesterday and today and wondered if they were anyone here.
-Grey ‘67 or ‘68 base at Hilton hotel
-White ‘67 or ‘68 (saw driving by today)
-Blue ‘70 Eliminator
Having a good time with my dad. I’m driving my white Yukon XL with MI plates.
Saw a couple more Cougars on HRPT today.
Medium blue ‘67 or ‘68 with Cragar SS wheels at Martinsville Speedway.
Green and grey custom ‘69 hardtop along route from Concord NC to Martinsville, VA.
After you leave Martinsville, which way will you be traveling? Sorry about the rain.
Bristol TN tomorrow so west from Eden NC where we are staying tonight is what I recall. The route is posted on the Hot Rod website. TONS of people were watching from there homes along the route today.
Met John today at a gas stop. He’s the owner of the gray Cougar we first saw in Charlotte. I also saw the green and grey custom ‘69 at the Wilwood display and met it’s owner Mike Kent. We had a nice chat with him about his car, my car, and Cougars in general. He’s not on any Cougar forums but someone out there noticed my post here and copied it to Facebook where he caught wind of it.
Forgot to say I saw the blue ‘70 Eliminator (clone) on the track at Bristol today. Was cool to see and hear!
Tomorrow is Bristol to Sparta, KY. Longest drive day at about 300 miles. Autocross at the track. No rain forecast FINALLY!
Mike’s custom 1969 at Bristol.
Blue Eliminator clone near the track at Bristol
and on the track at Bristol
Today was Kentucky Speedway and tomorrow we are headed to Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis. Drag racing tomorrow. I may give it a try in my Yukon!
Summit/Norwalk drag strip is estimating several thousand spectators tomorrow as the Tour ends. Sunny mid 70s.
I’m surprised how little response this thread has received. I thought posting pics might generate some interest.
Today was cold and rainy. Tomorrow we’re headed to Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum then to Norwalk Ohio to finish the tour. It’s been a great time with my dad. I love how all these people DRIVE their cars over a 1500 miles through all types of weather and roads and not just shine them up and sit by them like so many car shows.
I totally agree with driving them is so much more fun than just sitting at a car show.
Thanks for this thread about the tour. A lot of us like to lurk and read.
Ive been following along with the tour. I would love to participate one year once my car is finished.
I honestly do not care for car shows much. I like to walk around them once in a while to see whats new but I do not like to park and sit around showing my stuff. Would rather be driving thats for sure. Thats what makes the power tour cool, kinda like a rolling car show! best of both worlds
Thanks for the replies guys. I was starting to worry that this forum had nothing but “is this the correct finish on my nuts” guys. While I can appreciate a restored car, driving them is what is exciting to me.
Hey Todd, glad you guys are having fun, even if it’s not in your Cougar or his vette.
I’ve done two Tours back in the 90s when they were just getting going. They were some of the most fun I’ve ever had in my car in the 40+ years I’ve had it. Unfortunately, my schedule and responsibilities prevent me from going on stuff like this for now. The route the Tour followed would have been perfect too. I love the drive from Cleveland to Charlotte as I have done it numerous times heading there for GoodGuys events and NASCAR races. Then to have the tour wrap up right in my own backyard would have been awesome. But I couldn’t even get away to join at the final stop.
I love following the thread and seeing the photos - thanks for taking the time to post.
Did I hear correctly that some cars were stolen during the Tour?
- Phillip
Hi Chris, Mark and Phillip and thanks for your replies. My dad and I had a blast on the tour. Met some great folks and saw a lot of cool stuff! We will be doing it again next year!
Phillip-I wore my Cougar skeleton t-shirt I purchased from you at ZMax Dragway in Charlotte. Love that shirt! I had heard that cars were stolen in Charlotte but from what I know they were '80’s vintage GM cars with the smash and drive columns. Dirt bags are everywhere these days unfortunately.
“is this the correct finish on my nuts”
I lol’d. BTW
It was meant in fun and I hoped it would be taken as such.
