I have a 1967 Cougar that use to have a 289 engine. My question is, what motor mounts do I need to purchase in order to make sure the 351W mounts propely on the frame? All replies will be greatly appreciated. If you know of a brand of motor mounts will help or a website.
New small block engine frame mounts available from various auto parts stores are designed to fit 1968-70 Cougars and Mustangs. Those with 1967 289 engines or 351 convertibles had unique engine frame stands. Nobody reproduces engine mounts for 1967 289’s. You will have to use 1968-70 289/302/351 engine frame stands in order to make the installation.
Okay, just found out that it’s a 351 Cleveland. What motor mounts do I use? It originally came with a stock 289. Do I purchase at o’Realys the Windsor motor mounts people recommended here on the forums? Are the Windsor and Cleveland motor mounts the same?
If the mounts on your 289 are still good you can use them. If not see Don Rush’s post. You will need to change the frame mounts and use the 68/70 mounts.
351W and 351C use the same engine mounts with same frame stands, year for year. 1968-70 small block frame stands are what you will need, with new mounts.
Found a nice drawing online that shows the difference of hole position between the two types of engine pedestals. Note: the difference is on the flange that bolts between the pedestal and the frame.
