I had the original 69 351w block rebuilt but had to add aluminum heads as mine showed a crack. when they balanced the engine with the new tremec TKX 5 speed flywheel I used a 4 bolt harmonic balancer (28 oz). I’m finding it hard to find the correct pulleys for it to line up correctly. I have A/C. Please help.
The 4 bolt balancers were used in 1970 and later 351 windsors so you would need every bracket and pulley from a later engine in order to make it work properly. 1969 was the only year that Ford used the 3 bolt crank pulley and the brackets and pulleys are unique for that model year. They can be found but they may be expensive compared to the later versions.
used the 3 bolt balancer. You may need to use 70 pulleys and brackets. Also 70 has the water pump that the lower hose is on the opposite side of the radiator. That may or may not be a problem.
So I should probably change the balancer to a 3 bolt 28 oz balancer so that things remain the same. The nly thing I have used from a 70 is the windows so I could bolt them in instead of glueing them in the slot.
So if my engine has A/C and power steering, then I need the 4 bolt water pump pulley with 2 or 3 grooves? And with the 3 bolt balancer on, I will need the 3 bolt 3 groove pulley. Correct? The shop manual I have does not show a good picture with AC.
find an after market balancer. yours is old, buy a new one. new ones will have both bolt set ups
The difference between 2 or 3 sheaves is whether the car has a power steering pump or not. The third belt goes to the alternator if you do.
