351C-4V, start & idle problems.

Hello.

I have some problems with my motor.

I think it is atleast 2 problems,

  1. I have lost idle, thinking that something happend with the carb (Holley). Maybe clogged idle needles in carb.
The motor stops when revs goes under 800 rpm. Also it feels like the motor missfire when cruisin, when i drive harder its no problem.

  2. When the motor is cold its no problem to start, but when its hot the starter cant turn the motor, but if i use jumper cables its no problem.
I guess its maybe that the starter is bad or there is some grounding problems,or battery, but as i said when the motor is cold again its no problem to start without charging the battery.

Its is a stock motor with points and a old coil, the plugs and wires not to god either i belive. The points and capacitor looks ok.
All of that im going to swap now. Going to install a Ignitor and new coil, wires and plugs. Im aware that i have to bridge over the rev gauge (12Volt).

What do you think out there, you experienced mecanics,? If someone have some suggestions to my problems just throw it out, im listening.

Thanks Tommy.

I have experienced this type of problem recently too. :imp:
My gut feeling is that lack of use, coupled with Ethanol fuel is causing this problem.

Sounds like the idle circuit is malfunctioning. Try tightening the float bowl mounting screws first (common holley problem). If that does not help rev the engine up and shut the choke almost stalling the engine. Repeat several times. As far as the hot starting problem goes, it sounds like over advanced timing or a overheated or bad starter, cabling problem or weak battery.

^ That.

Check the starter connection at the starter. I’d pull the bowls from the carb and make sure you don’t have some ethanol related lifeform breeding in there.
