36th Annual Old Time Drags and Rod Run, Englishtown, NJ 07/26/2015

Big day out in Isabel yesterday, got a little fried in the sun but had a fantastic day with the best (and last) run of the day yielding a 12.925 ET @ 110.3MPH, she’s a beast! I guess they were not enforcing NHRA rules yesterday (convertible 13.49 and slower or roll bar), maybe given the nature of the event, but I was thrilled since my first run out of the box was a 13.1 (and with street radials!, too much merriment Saturday evening, did not get a chance to put them on before going on Sunday morning).

Okay, so here’s the timeslips:

And five videos. First in-car was second run (forgot to video the first run!). Second in-car and accompanying video from the stands. And also from the stands, my buddy in his ZZ-1, 4 speed '55 Chevy. I spun pretty badly on both second and third runs. First and fourth runs were better as I dropped the clutch at lower RPM and pulled it out of the hole (but there’s more left (probably a lot) in ET with the drag radials and some hook).

Last run was the best of the day and although I broke out of my 13.05 dial-in, I also broke into the 12’s! I figured make it a win-win. I’d set the dial-in there so if I did not break out I was still in the game, if I did, I would be smiling ear to ear with a 12.xx on my timeslip! Such Fun!

Was truly a blast and never thought I would be saying Isabel (at 4150 lbs) is a twelve second car all day long!!!

She’s putting down some power, congrats on the new setup. With that weight and MPH she’s putting down close to 450 rwhp. Also nice reaction times for an old guy.

LOL. Now, respect your elders young man! Especially the old geezer who lobbied so valiantly for your ROTM desserts!

BTW, when’s the new Jackass movie due out? :buck:

Awesome! Thanks for the ride, she is a beast and a sweetheart.

Thanks Steve and Jeff!

A friend found this image from an event photographer. I may just have to buy it! Pretty cool.

Here’s the picture I was referring to. Best run was 12.9@110MPH:

Respect!!! I noticed in the clip of you against that Charger, you were catching him at the end. If you could have hooked, man. Still nice job. What kind of rear gear are you running?

Yep, that run I spun like crazy off the line, I closed the gap the entire run, he only won by something like .02s. I had launched at too high an RPM for street radials, I was too hung over from the night before to have changed to my drag radials before the outing.

Saw the charger at a car show a few weeks later (but did not get to talk to the owner - although I was looking for him!), the car had a 440 in it! At my weight (4150lbs with me in it), Isabel runs pretty darn well with her new 408C (and there’s more in 'er!).

Oh, and I am running 3.25’s with a Detroit True Trac. Have 3.89’s I’ll be installing over the winter months (the new pumpkin is ready and waiting to be assembled as I write this!).

Thanks!

Never discount a Cleveland! One of my best friends in high school built a '70 Mach 1 with a Cleveland. We made fun of him because he used the “how to build a high performance Ford book”, and came out and spanked my '69 440 Sport Satellite by 2 car lengths. As a matter of fact he beat another friend with a 427 Camaro by 6 car lengths. I was running consistent 12.60’s at the time so he was running 12.30s-40s, with a 351 Cleveland.

That time with those gears and a 4100lb car is VERY impressive.

Thanks!
