4 Speed Top Loader Update

This past Sunday the project continued of trying to figure out why there was this aweful squealing noise from the newly installed “almost new” trans. The thought process was that the main bearing retainer was a bit too long, allowing it to contact the clutch disc. This was causing the noise we were hearing. After removing the trans and cutting off about 3/16 from the end of it and reinstalling the trans., no more noise. Runs great.

I also installed the correct Hurst back up light switch for the Hurst shifter I installed so now the back up lights also work. :jump3:

Next up is the install of the hydraulic steering cylinder I just ordered from WCCC. It’s fun having the next project in que.

Thanks for reading.

NIce catch.

BTW How hard is it to replace the speedo cable with the 4 speed still in the car?

One less thing to keep you awake at night! Glad it wasn’t to hard to resolve.

Putting a new one in isn’t too terribly bad…deciphering the routing pics in the manual, though…

Oh, and getting it mated to the speedo is tough without pulling the cluster out, but doable.

The cable wasn’t replaced onthe car. The nylon speed gear was, and it wasn’t a problem. I need to lube it now as it was making a rubbing noise that increased as speed increased.

Maybe I should start with the gear first and see if that corrects the issue.
