5/8 in straight rear sway bar interest

I returned a rear 7/8"ADDCO sway bar for '70 cougar. They are going to make me a 5/8" rear bar that will be straight. Anybody interested in one? I need to ask tomorrow about price but the addco 432 bar was @ $200.

Straight across as in the way a 1970 Eliminator rear bar was made? If so, it would probably fit better than the D1ZZ-5A772-B 5/8" Mustang service part. Because of the bend, it rattles against the exhaust on the LH side.

This 5/8" rear bar worked well on my big block '68 Cougar with a 15/16" front bar.

Turning the eyes 90 deg and adding several more like the '70 B302 TransAm D0ZX-5A772-B rear bar would be a plus - it would then be adjustable.

Yes just like the stock bar.

I would be interested in one

Why returning the 7/8 and what’s the perceived advantage of the one you’re asking them to make?

I would be interested in at least 2 bars, if they made with the width of the 1970 Cougar rear bar, so the original upper/lower mounts can be used. The Addco 432 mounting setup requires drilling the frame (on the 1967-69) to insert U-bolts.

Does it match the pre-drilled holes already in your 1970 frame? 5/8" is a better match for the 15/16" front sway bar on street cars than the 7/8" bar.

The Addco 990 7/8" rear bar that I used on my '67 TransAm race car (with an Addco 908 1-1/8" front bar) was too stiff. It was removed when I discovered it was lifting the inside tire on the exit of certain RH corners. This lift was causing the inside tire to spin, losing corner exit speed. To balance the car, the rear springs were stiffened (as recommended by Bob Couch). Ultimately, converting from a Trak-Loc to a Detroit locker eliminated the tire spin.

I have two of the older gen Addco 990 7/8" rear sway bars available if anyone is interested.

Cougarsunlimited answered for me. I had read other’s post of the larger rear bar causing problems with major oversteer. The B2 and cougar had 1/2 bars and the B9 had a 5/8 bar. The 1/2 and 15/16ths front bars were a pretty balanced combination.

I’ll call Ernie at ADDCO and ask him to add two more.

Ok so here’s the price. $267.72. 5/8 bar like stock shape. Includes all hardware and free shipping. Let me know who’s still interested. Thanks guys

I want one but I guess I can just call Ernie at Addco ?

Sure that works. Ernie is the tech guy that bends the bars. Hit extension 2.

I talked with Ernie at Addco. I think you should call Ernie to place the order. I believe Fecats called them already. The sooner you do the sooner he’ll make the bars.

Thank you, I’ll call tomorrow.

Yes, I called Ernie and he took my info and said he will call when they are done
Thanks
