60's Cougar Print from Mercury Dealer

A friend sent me these pictures and the following email. I wonder if this is a print that was promoted by Mercury or just a one-off Dealer that liked the print and bought it for the dealership. Either way it’s kind of cool for the money.

You may recall, about a month ago I mentioned that a local antique store (run by two great ladies) has a Cougar painting that they say came from a Mercury dealership. The dealer told them he’d bought it when the new Cougars came out in the 1960’s. The print is nicely framed and signed by a well-known wildlife artist named Harry Antis. Other works of his can be seen at FinestPrints.com is for sale | HugeDomains and sell anywhere from $10 to $65 UN-framed.

Mart’s Treasures has the print in Whitmore Lake. Their number is 734-449-8810. They’re asking $65 for it framed, but I imagine they would consider any reasonable offer from anyone in the Cougar club - especially if local pickup could be arranged. Harry Antis has other cougar prints, but I could not find any copies of this one so it’s likely a sold-out print.

I forgot to write down the dimensions of it, but it’s a rather large framed print - I’m guessing at least 24" tall. I included a photo with a lantern in the foregorund to give some sense of scale.

Tim, I have never seen anything like that… Nice prints!

Hi Bill,

I have not either. I doubt this was something Mercury supported, but who knows for sure. Most likely the dealership owner saw the print and bought it for his office as the Cougar was introduced.
If I had a sweet garage I might buy it
