67 4 Speed Trouble Downshifting

I agree with what you’ve said Johnny. But, having gotten over 100K miles on an original clutch (with downshifting) I’d have to say it does not wear at the same rate as brake pads (which makes sense, at least to me). As for being an expert, I don’t know if I’d go that far, I’m just an engineer who was a technician who was an automotive machinist who was a fully certified ASE mechanic. I have seen some things and learned a lot from all of them and so was relating what I believe to be true about this particular scenario, same as you. Our views are slightly different but it’s all good!

Love those guys! And, they agree with Johnny. I’m still content to view it and do it my way though…

I have downshifted with every manual trans I have had with no troubles EVER !

I agree with Don on the downshifting.
One of the mistakes in the click and clack discussion is that when I was taught to drive a tractor trailer, you always need to be in a gear to respond to a change in situations and should never coast even when braking.

EXACTOMUNDO!! Avoidance maneuvering. You REALLY slow your ability to react if you have to add the step of finding a gear.
