Looking for new coil springs in the front. My car was a partial build by the previous owner and honestly I don’t know what I have for springs currently. I know it has the Shelby drop and I can see the springs were cut. But, it sits way to low. It was a 289 car and now has a 351w with a/c. Would a set of stock replacement 289 springs get me somewhere say 1-1.5" lower than stock? It’s literally on the rubber stops currently. Thanks
The 289 springs would not sit that low. Likely it is because the coils were cut. Typically I do the 351 swap and find the springs are perfect on '67’s.
Thanks. I think I’ll give them a try.
The 351W is not a whole lot heavier than a 289. Typically you are using an aluminum intake, headers so the 351W ends up a little lighter than a 289.
Built a cast iron 351W to replace an all iron 302 back in 1982ish. Drove it for a couple hundred thousand miles and it was perfect…wouldn’t want to change anything other than adding the 428CJ front sway bar and export brace, and a 70 Eliminator rear sway bar which flattened the car out in the corners and freeway on/off ramps.
Son took over the car a decade or so ago and recently we did the Shelby drop…didn’t alter the springs a bit…still looking and driving very well!!!
So as Royce is suggesting, the small block springs will do you well!!! No worries!

Thanks guys. I have a set on the way. It has the large sway bar so hopefully it handles well
Any update? I, too have a ‘67 with the Shelby drop and original front springs, 390 GT front sway bar and aftermarket Addco rear bar (from 40+ years ago!). It’s quite flat, and also quite compliant (i.e. comfortable).
For a while I was thinking my springs were too soft because on potholes or big bumps I’d get a huge bang from the bump stops. I recently looked and realized my front bump stops were totally devoid of rubber on one side, the other damaged. I bought new ones, trimmed the rubber as short as I was comfortable with and have not heard them contact since.
I purchased standard springs. My car has the Shelby drop and aftermarket a/c. I cut 1/4 coil off and iv driven it a few hundred miles and it sits really close to stock height. It’s a little high for me honestly but not worth the work to cut again. It does drive and hamdl well.
I’m surprised you’re ‘a little high’. With my original 289 stock springs and the Shelby mod, mine has an ever so slight rake down in the front vs. the rear. With these 16” wheels and tires, to me the right look.
I definitely like the way yours sits better than mine. I’ll probably trim my springs again.
