This is a pick from my 68 Hertz G project. Do repo 67/68 carpets have this detail ?
If not has anyone made this modification to the repos to make them look original ?
I have never seen serging like that on originals or repops. My guess is the carpet has been replaced at least once already. Serging is pretty old school.
Looks like the small reproduction carpet section for a Mustang fastback carpet set that someone repurposed for a Cougar
I was thinking that the carpet set was for a mustang and they filled the void by the rear inner panels with these small filler pieces. If it is not factory original then it had to have been done no later than 1978 as the car has been setting since then.
On the plus side I don’t have to worry about having to reproduce it.
The OEM carpet and the reproduction stuff are both molded. There is no serging used at all. The reproduction stuff looks pretty good so long as you cut the hole for the dimmer switch and do not use the grommet they supply.
