Hey folks,
Where on a 67/68 cougar is the VIN number located
I don’t deal with these years much but I came across one today. Selling dealer said it was a 68 but the door tag shows a 67. Color and interior have been changed, started out as a lime frost with light ivy gold. Now all blue. Transmission code show’s an automatic, now a 3 speed, engine should be a 289 2v
Probably legit, just checking. Asking $4800
1967 VIN should be visible on inner fender I think.
1968 will have a VIN tag on the passenger side at foot of windshield. Also stamped on inner fender but frequently covered by the fender.
The door might have been replaced but better to check the hidden VIN locations to be sure the number on the title matches the car. The door tag states that it is not a legal VIN.
The inner fenders on both sides, the transmission, and the buck tag (if a Dearborn made vehicle) all have the VIN in 1967 and 1968 while the 1968 also contains a VIN tag at the lower passenger side of the windshield.
My first 68 Cougar had the VIN located on the driver side, my current 68 has it on the drinker side. I think it had to do with where they were built.
As far as the VINs stamped on the drivers side of the engine compartment believe you will find that 68 Dearborn built cars were typically stamped so that VIN (and the passenger side) were stamped closer to the edge of the inner fender panel as are not visible while on San Jose built 68s they were stamped so you could see the drivers side like in 67 production
