'67-8 side view mirror advise?

I bought repops from WCCC, and I can’t seem to get these adjusted to where they are at all useful. Any tips/tricks?

If you are installing a passenger door mirror, I would advise that you buy a convex one as the plain mirror I bought is as good as useless, but better than nothing.

If I remember correctly I had to play with it for an hour or so before it was good enough to use.

Same problem here. I loosened the head adjustment screw and was able to move the mirror up enough to make it to somewhat useful, although I have to dip my head to see very much behind me. I don’t remember previous purchases of this mirror having that kind of problem.

Keep in mind there are three adjustment points, the one most people overlook is the one inside of the hollow base. Watch for a video on how to.

You have to loosen the bolt that comes up from the base of the mirror, into the head of the mirror, to get the thing into the right angle to make it work. This can’t bet be reached once the mirror is screwed in place. It really is essential to have helper when doing this.

Don & Bill, thanks for the explanations. I’ll give that a try on Saturday when I can get to the car and have someone there to assist.

I just turn my head. The cougar is low enough and has a wide view area. Theres not much room for a blindspot.
Never found those little mirrors very useful.
Oh wait. I do prop my left hand on the drivers side mirror when the windows down so I guess they can come in handy.

Mwahahahahaha…get it? ->handy? Mwahahahahahahahaha

That’s helpful, I’ve only played with the phillips screw into the mirror head. Of course I’ll have to order another now since somebody in my household must have bumped into it & the mirror head is now hanging by the cable…;-( I can’t even get mad because it might have been me…

I just used both screws to adjust the mirror head and now it’s perfect. The screw inside the base allows the entire head to pivot up enough so that the control knob is in the neutral position with the mirror head in just about the right position for me. From there, the set screw at the back of the head allows for final adjustment.

It’s definitely a 2-person job, though, since one of us needed to be in the driver seat to adjust the head to the right angle so that the head screw would suffice for final adjustment. The other person held the base down and then snugged down the internal set screw before reattaching the base to the door.
