67 Cougar 289 Intake and carb suggestions

I have a slightly built 289 in my 67 Cougar. Currently has an Edelbrock Performer and Holley 600 and runs well but the intake needs replaced. I have a new Edelbrock Performer RPM but not sure this is the combination I should use. I also have an original Autolite 4300 C7DF AL and the original cast 4 barrel manifold from a 289 K code 4 speed. Should I keep the original manifold and carb together or mix and match?
I’m open for any suggestion!
Thanks!

What look are you going for? Restored original or restomod? Kinda up to you. If it were me I’d be going for an original look.

Looking at best performance but if there’s not much difference I would lean towards original even though it would add a few pounds?, for the original intake. Everything else on the car is pretty much stock.

I would use the Performer RPM with a Holley 600 carb. The old Autolites are notorious for leaking and they are only 470 CFM so not too good for performance either.

Should I keep the old 1" spacer with the new RPM and Holley?

If it will fit under the hood yes but likely it won’t. A gasket with spacer built in that is around 1/8" thick is going to fit.

Thanks for all the help Royce! Now just have to find that 1/8 spacer.

I have a Performer RPM Air Gap with a 1" spacer on my 67. A phenolic is best in my opinion as it helps insulate the carb from heat. I am running a shorter (2") open element air filter to assist with hood clearance although I could run taller.

Thanks! I think my Performer RPM is a lower profile than the Air Gap. So running a original stock 1" spacer with the low profile oval cougar air cleaner, I should have enough clearance.
Thanks for the input!

This is a difficult question to answer without knowing the cam profile and intended use. If a stock cam, I would stay away from the rpm intake. It is meant for a high revving engine that a stock cam can’t support. It is also designed to make horsepower at a higher rpm than the performer. If you want off the line torque, the performer is a great intake and much lighter than a stock unit. I wouldn’t go with the rpm unless you have the cam to match it.

Its Melling torq cam Class 1 intended for street performance and fun!
