67 Fastback at Birthplace of Route 66 Festival

At the show in Springfield MO with our wagon and this is parked a few spaces away.

Now there’s something you don’t see every day, A Mustang pretending it’s a Cougar!

Oh my…

Now I need a convertible conversion and a fastback conversion.

Very nice! It seems well executed. Thanks for sharing.

Nice looking conversion!

That’s awesome.

Very nicely done!

Nice, but the belt line kickup at the front of the quarter panel doesn’t match with anything.

Nice, but the belt line kickup at the front of the quarter panel doesn’t match with anything.

But it does retain the Cougar styling cue. I don’t think it detracts.
Any more pix?

What about these?

It almost has a hint of Batmobile styling with those subtle wings behind the kick up. Probably not what I would choose either, but it’s growing on me! Very cool car in any case!

Only if it has the running light at the rear of the scoop as seen on the early 67 Shelbys.

What about a window like on the 66 GT-350?

Still, the angle won’t match to the belt line.

Here are a few more pics of it. The owner told me this conversion was done by a teenager in the 70’s because the hood flew up and damaged the roof. He bought it 2 or 3 years ago in pieces. This was the first time it was on the road in 40 years.

Thats cool! I would drive that for sure! cougars and different enough but a fastback cougar is very unique!

I agree the belt line is odd, I would choose to round and blend that in more personally but very well done.

The builder did a great job of blending the roof line into the trunk lid.

Once more, I’ll say nice conversion! I have seen pics of this car before though. Now, let’s talk about rarity against the vert conversions. There are a number of 67/68 convertible conversions running around. Super rare but they are out there. The verts are more desirable because… well, they are drop tops. How many of these fastback 67/68 Cougars are known to exist? Just curious.

I’m taking it that this is the only known fastback conversion for a 67/68 Cougar. Super! The owner has a very rare car then. Very nice! . :slightly_smiling_face:

It’s not the only one, but it is the first finished one I’ve seen. A friend of mine is going one in upstate NY.

Very nice! I can’t wait to see some pics.
