Anyone know what the eye-eye dimensions (uninstalled) should be for a 67 Cougar? Im trying to determine what the heck is going on !!!
Purchased standard height replacements and the eye-eye was 55.00" which matched the existing eye-eye dimensions.
Wanted to lower the rear ride height and ordered (p/n 68932) the 1.00" lowering springs. They measured eye-eye at 59.00". I installed them and now the shackles are extended so far out that they the eye is hitting the frame
.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You answered your own question, the center eye to eye measurement on my 67 289 standard with power steering is 55.0 inches. The free arc on my stock springs is 11.0 inches however these spring were the originals removed from the car after 46 years of service, so I would not be surprised to see a taller free arc height. The original springs on my car have the part number C7WA-5556-JGI-7E and C7WA-5556-JGI-7C
Who did you buy these “lowering springs” from? Did the instructions that came with your springs state if you need lowering blocks as well?

Thanks coach. I purchased these from Summit who distributes them for ST Suspensions. I have a call into ST and am awaiting Monday. Can we agree the rear eyes should not be riding on the frame? A hard bump may bend the frame is what I see could possibly happen. Seems when they took some of the arc out, it lengthened the eye to eye dimension. Then again I am not a leaf spring designer. Will post my results from ST.
The rear shackle should be in a vertical position allowing the spring perch to travel fore and aft as the suspension moves. Typically a lowered spring without blocks will have a shorter arc than stock placing the rear axle higher relative to the body.

DO NOT PURCHASE DROP LEAF SPRINGS 5965 OR 68932 !!!
Ok folks, here is what I heard from the manufacturer (Belltech/ST Suspensions/KW Automotive) today. By the way these are distributed by Summit and Andys Auto Sport.
When I called today 1-4-16 the tech advised me to return them for a refund. I forced the explanation of the dimensional issues (5.00" too long) and he said he checked a set and they where wrong too. He was just matter of factly about it that it sounded like the problem is known but are unwilling to fix the problem. He offered me no solution to the $400+ I spent on these 5965/68932 leaf springs that do not fit a 67 Cougar ! Now I have to return them (hopefully at their cost) and wait for the refund.
I will be contacting a couple other manufacturers tomm to see if they can offer the COREECT solution.
