67 Steering Wheel on 68 Tilt

As some may know, the much cooler looking 67 steering wheel physically fits on a 68 tilt-a-way column, but it’s smaller diameter leaves an unsightly gap between its base and th outside edge of the column. I thought I’d share my cheapskate solution, which litterally costs just peanuts.

What you’ll need: peanuts, scissors or x-acto knife, quarter, Fat Sqirrel (ok, the beer is optional).

Cut out the shiny part of the lid from the peanuts. I started with a small hole and then trimmed the rest while enjoying the peanuts. Test fit your hole on the back of the 67 steering wheel to make sure it’s large enough.

Use the quarter as a template to cut out a notch for the emergency light switch bezel

PhaseII: continue eating peanuts and drinking beer while you test fit eveything. I stuck a few dabs of craft glue on the edge of the column to keep it from spinning.

Install the 67 steering wheel and finish your peanuts and beer. Total cost (not including beer): $2.58

Nice! The beauty about that go around is can also put the 67 Mustang wheel on your 68-69.

Jody I’m digging the fix. That fix is a shoe in for ROTM (Resourcefulness Of The Month).

Thumbs up for the ingenuity. Though I am not a fan of the flower pot wheel.

Have to agree with you… Great ingenuity, don’t care for the original wheel…

I had a 67 in high school, late 88, or 89 when I got it. Graduated in 90. That car had a funky aftermarket wheel in it that was way too small… I found and installed a 68 wheel. I liked it better than the 67.

Yorgle, It looks pretty darn good - I WAS going to do the same until my friend did the rubber tube thing I posted, which frankly I like a bit better and could be mistaken for factory by the unknowing.

What “rubber tube thing” are you/is he tdlking about?
