After a ton of deliberation for about 5 years, I decided I’m not gettin’ any younger and that the GT ain’t gettin’ any less rust growing on her…
And the paint is just tired, especially in the area where the driver was hit years ago when the original owner came out of the A&W near Detroit. He kept the interior immaculate, as well as the vinyl top and the wire caps were kept in his closet from '72 till 2009 while the car was in storage near Detroit. He paid 85.00 per month for storage all that time. Do that math!
But the paint needs some love, so we’re tearing her down…

It has been repaired…but it is pretty nice, the repair was done well and won’t show. So yeah…and Sshhh Brian L’s on here often I owe him for…like…life Perhaps you’re saying that if I was going for originality (which I am) I shouldn’t put a shroud on it? I’ve debated a lot, and of course many have advised to go with one to help cooling, even if not original…and this is so cool it seems it ought to be on a '67…
Or are you saying sell it and take Brian on a cruise to the Caribbean?
Don, I just removed a very good condition fan shroud from a Berkeley Ca sold XR7 GT 4 speed non a/c car 390 and thermactor. This was a very well documented one owner car. A C7ZE-A can be worth $1500 or more as they also came on 67 GT500’s.
It was a find at the Albany Swap Meet…Albany, OR. I found it Friday evening and forgot about it until Saturday afternoon, because I knew it wouldn’t work on my 69 Cobra I just mentally blocked it out of my mind. My swap meet booth was right next to the guy who had it. I saw lots of local Cougar/Mustang guys oogle and augle it, but no one bought it. It finally dawned on me that maybe BAust would want it, he has a car that could use it… Once I contacted BAust to see if he wanted it(he’s a fair weather swap meet person…haha, actually smart to stay home and not be tempted to collect more junk like I do, also saves money that way too!!), it was still sitting on the table so I picked it up for him before I forgot again and before anyone else had the idea they needed it. I even saw the famous RED pick it up and set it back down! Haha!! Glad to help out a friend regardless of the potential profit possibilities. BAust did take me to the NCAA College Basketball PK80 tournament last night, so that was a really cool payment/thank you!
I am, in fact, terrible at swap meets…all I see is other people’s junk. My brain just starts spinning and I end up buying an over priced sign, a rusty Model A yard ornament, a generator, or something else I don’t need, lol.
One time I did buy a set of LeMans rods and sold them 100 yards later at the top of the hill and made a 100$. That was cool.
I have a bad habit of waiting to pay retail for things right when I actually know I need them…but with friends like Brian out there canvasing the meets-this is the best of both worlds
