68 black cherry cougar DGS

I went to Do a door tag check and as a Cougar tech apprentice I am a bit unsure, need help.
Warranty no. 8F91F571387, 65A F 2A 24E 32 5 U
The seller says it is a DGS but the vin decoder says it is a standard (91).
Is this correct? How do,I confirm this dude is selling a genuine DGS?

I think a lot of people get a Dan gurney special and an XR7-G car confused. Your right the 91 is a standard car 93 would be an XR-7. As far as a Dan gurney car, decals on rear quarter windows, chrome engine dress up kit and special wheel covers is what sets them apart. Good luck.

Yeah, and the other thing the door tag says that it is not Black Cherry, it is/was Madras Blue.

Also code U for transmission is impossible for the noted 302-2V engine.

You car is a 1968 standard coupe with the 302-2V engine. All of the Dan Gurney Specials were based on the standard Cougar like that one. The Dan Gurney Special kit in 1968 consisted of a set of full wheel covers (hub caps) and a sticker. There was not a chrome engine dress up kit included with the 1968 DGS package.

The DGS package was basically a free set of hubcaps.

Ah ya my bad on the dress up kit. That was only a 67 thing.

Good info thanks
