68 COUGAR - HOW TO LOWER REAR END OF CAR

Good morning, What is the best way to lower the rear of the car, by about 1" or a little more? I bought a set of 1" aluminum blocks, however, when I was going to install them I notice where you install the blocks the car has some kind of rubber, I did some research and I guess that is how they came form factory. So I decided not to install the blocks and put everything back to how it was.

Can I install those aluminum blocks along with the original rubber pieces? But I will need longer U-bolts, or is there another way to do it?

thanks for your help

Conventional lowering blocks will not work with the factory cougar setup with the rubber isolators and factory pinion degree wedge. Some guys like to convert over to a mustang style but you need to account for the pinion degree wedge some how when doing this. Instead I made my own blocks to fit. Take a look on how I made my own blocks to accommodate

Best way is to have the rear springs rearched and use shorter Mustang shocks.

Above is good advice and the best way to go about it.

My purpose was to adjust the pinion angle but the shim will lower the vehicle as a side effect. These 1/4” 2 degree shims (Summit) had a small hole that I needed to bore out to the size shown. They could be straight blocks depending on what you find. I also needed to use longer U-Bolts.

Thanks, I like DieselD solution, I will look into doing his solution.

keep us posted on how it works out for you. You can also play around a little bit with height too, I made another 1.5 and 2" block to try as well to see where I wanted it to end up. Im comfortable with running a 1" block long term but anything bigger I would go with a spring instead for a permanent install.
