From a customer of mine, just passing it along, I know nothing about the car. Asking $15k, looks like a solid car to me and considering he might be flexible on price, I doubt it will last long. One benefit of being a member of this site is you get to see presale deals like this. Guessing this would last about 2 hrs on FB. David Nelson N.Chesterfield, VA 23236 (804) 382-6877
I bought a 1968 Cougar xr7 at the end of 2013 from a private party. I believe I am the 4th owner- the 2nd being related to the orig owner in San Jose where the car was sold new. The 3rd owner in CA stored it for years - reason unknown. This car only had perforation in the pass side front floor - a correct new floor pan has been partially installed. There are several surface rust areas topside, maybe from improper storage? I am 73 now and have several maladies, and my buddy, was body shop mgr for 2 local dealerships here back in the 80’s. Whatever he does he does right! He does not have time to work on it anymore and I cannot afford to pay anyone to finish it. It has been garaged the entire time of my ownership.
Excellent candidate for an easy restoration. I have driven it only to local shows,
so mileage is little more than the 133k when it came to me. It has run strongly the whole time I had it. 302 4bbl, power steering and brakes (front disc). vinyl top, tilt-away, console automatic, full tint, factory AC (was still holding pressure when all but the block came out to paint engine bay), incorrect 69/70 14" rims with newer BFG T/A radial tires. I have compiled a 3" binder with every ad or magazine article on the 67-68’s. In the front of that binder are all the orig paperwork, orig window sticker, temp registration when sold new.and much more. To our knowledge, all Lime Frost paint is original except the hood. When it came to me, it had an incorrect non-Cougar Ford steering wheel. Loving the sporty 67 wheel way more than the orig bland 68 style, it now has that nice 67 wheel. There is a shallow dent in the roof on pass side. There was a shallow dent behind the left front marker light, but has been pulled out only. Both front fenders are off the car.
I have many uninstalled new parts, mostly from WCCC: Premium black v-top, black carpeting, deeper stainless steel door sill plates, all new weather stripping, rubber bumpers and body plugs; radiator fan shroud, all new belts and hoses, water pump, oil pump, fuel pump, pass side mirror, plugs and distributor, rear main seal, plugs, U-joints, brake booster, new orig style front floor mats, new rear window and windshield gaskets, radiator, sequential taillight updated unit installed in trunk, steering column harness, prob more that I cannot remember!
We sent the carb off for rebuild and had a new oil pan as well as the transmission serviced. All gauges work and orig AM radio works. sequential action of taillights not working, presumably the column harness being the culprit. The interior is dark green, and headliner and interior door panels near perfect, as is the rear seat! Orig dash pad still somewhat pliable but intact and no warpage. Have front seat replacement vinyl covers in correct xr7 pattern and new molded foam for those as well. Disconnected the headlight vacuum hoses in order to install a tested electric mechanism from a Ford Probe ( a common conversion), even though the vacuum ones worked perfectly! All old parts were saved and these plus all the new parts included plus the binder!
Attaching some photos including before-and-after of the engine bay to illustrate how we do things - correctly! I know I have forgotten some misc stuff…
