I found a 68 Lincoln continental near me. It is an automatic column with the "PRND12 in the top of the column. Can this column be used on the 68 cougar and modify the top sleeve where the pointer is? It also has the cruise control blinker stock on it, would this be the same stock as what the cougar used and would the cruise control components all be the same as well?
Im not even sure it has tilt, but being that is is a Lincoln I would think it should.
Thanks
I do not believe that the steering column could be installed in a 1968 Cougar without major work. Steve Liebenow is better qualified to answer that question.
The speed control controler, and the turn signal stalk are the same on most all applications. However it is the hardware that connects the throttle with the bellows that are Mustang and Cougar specific. Speedometer cables may be longer or shorter than needed too.
I bet you could barter/trade it for some Cougar parts. Lincoln guys are just as freaky about groovy steering columns as we are. And they cross pollenate with Mustang/Fairlane/etc. models too.
Thanks for your replies, that does sound like a good idea if I can get the parts at a good price. Power window switches as well. Not sure about what size of motor would be in it, It could be a 390 or 428. other than the lower rear quarters the rest of the car is in good shape, with no rust at the bottom of the doors. The interior on the other hand is nasty. You would have to ware a mask while working on it. Mold is not a good thing to be breathing in.
Do you think the rear end may be a 9 inch āNā casing?
1968 Lincolns are going to have 460 engines.
Also most likely it is going to have a 9-3/8" rear end.
The rear end is likely to be a 9 3/8" unit or whatever the full sized cars had.
9 3/8? thats the first time I have heard of that. Never knew there was such a thing, you learn something new every day.
