68 R code

Well I started to clean the Norton and just could not ignore the 68. I spent all day scrubbing and finally sanded and painted the ugly red in the rims. This weekend I am installing new intake, carb, water pump, and power steering pulley.

I also have a lot of general wrenching to do. A lot of parts are just bolted on in a hurry for shipping,(note the rear bumper) Its going for exhaust soon, a little up in the air what to put on it.

It goes without saying that that is one of the coolest Cougars on the planet. Not only because it is an R-code, but also for the Dyno Don connection.

Would love to see it in person.

Any chance you could bring it to the All-Ford Show at Carlisle this summer OldWood?

Ok, ok I have to say cool Cougar  . The one photo is a tease, how about some more pictures. I saw you Cougar sitting in the dark background of the Norton picture. What is the Dyno Don connection? More pictures please.

Steven

I lost another one. My typing is improving though. Thanks guys, I would love to make it to Carlisle, and I will if I get caught up around here. But youre wellcome any time and the mountains would be a nice trip from Richmond. Steve, my 68 was a gift from Henry Ford to Dyno Don. I lost my reply yesterday trying to upload another picture. I will have more this weekend for sure.

Another picture

I was going easy on her, just making sure the trac lok worked. You can see the red on the rims I was talking about. I was afraid it was ordered that way.

Love the action shot of your R code stretching it’s legs. I read somewhere that the rims could be color matched to your car when ordered. So you might be right about being ordered that way.

That car just gives me a chubby. Love it Wood!

Why all the new parts? The original intake is actually a valuable and also effective part, you can’t beat the original CJ carb, and the power steering pump pulley is a CJ only part to keep the pump from being over rev’d.

First of all, some po bent the hell out of my pulley. I am driving it without power steering right now. I am going back with a correct CJ pulley and I will keep the one I have.Second, I have a replacement carb that has seen better days. I have a brand new shiny Holley thats just a little bit bigger, to put on it temporary. Until I get a smokin deal on a date code correct 735. The intake, I bought a perfect Sidewinder and I will put the cast iron CJ on the shelf right next to the exhaust manifolds. And then DRIVE IT! Yee Haw, but gently. :beerchug:

Drive it to Carlisle, first weekend in June! :beerchug:

Please post some engine pics when you have the chance too. Does not have to be clean and shiney to me. I dig a little grease and grime.

I will take some before and after this weekend. I just hope UPS shows up today. If I bring it to Carlisle I will haul it. I just dont want to put those kind of miles on it. Just cruising around back roads.

Absolutely, I understand regarding the drive to Carlisle.

It really would be great if you could trailer it tho. Your car would be a huge hit!

I am glad you think so. I really do hope to make it this year I think its been three years for Carlisle and longer since I have been to a Delmarva event. I moved to the mountains six years ago this past Thanksgiving and I have been busy ever since. Mostly in a good way though. I love it here. What about you visiting here? We have bon fires a lot on the weekends and my neighbors will come and play guitars, banjos, mandolin and most times some good local mountain nectar. Plus we have a really good 1/8 mile drag strip in the neighborhood.

Now THAT is freakin’ awesome! Usually folks say “drive faster, I hear banjos” and mean it in a bad way. Me, I’m thinking that means you are close to “heaven” and need to go a little faster to get there sooner.

Rockin’ chair, bon fire, mason jar, V-8 rumble with banjo accompaniment… WIN!

Hello Mike, no bad its pretty good around here. It took me longer to make friends than usual but I have made some good ones. I started camping out up here right after we bought the house in September. I did some of the remodeling before we moved in. Floors, beams and ripped out the fake paneling and put up real stuff. My bon fire friends and I talk about back then I was up here by myself for a couple of months and the only people I met are the only assholes I have met since I moved here. Unfortunatly they live across the street. But at least they are far enough away I cant even see them unless I make an effort. We allways have a big deal on fourth of July, lots of company, cold refreshment and we blow the valley UP! Fireworks are awesome here, no lights, and great acoustics. Thats when I made friends and we have been doing the bonfires pretty regular ever since. :beerchug: Six years though and one only lonely asshole is pretty good as far as the places I have lived and visited.

I forgot to mention the UPS gods were good to me today. My parts got here right on time and it started raining right at dark. The forecast is for a rainy weekend so I am all hooked up to do some wrenching. I love it when a plan comes together. I have a computer tech coming early next week so hopefully I can get my uploading woes taken care of soon. Besides the satelite internet issue, I think part of my problem is I had a automatic update go on that has a lot of my settings screwed up. My internet has been slow ever since, emails everything.I couldnt even upload a picture to photobucket let alone a video. :help: Plus it just Changed everything. I hate it when that happens! :angryfire:

I missed this one. Zoli your car gives me a chubby brother! I guess its a Cougar thing. I like older women too. Allthough my wife claims to be younger than me.

Sounds great to me OldWood, my family is from the mountains of southwestern Virginia and North Carolina. My Mom lives near Abingdon Va. so I head down that way about a dozen times a year.
