Hi Cougar Community Elders,
Are the rear Spring body mount bushes the same as a similar era Mustang cousin?
Would appreciate someone confirming this.
Cheers
Leigh
Yes they are the same shackles and rubber bushings. The spring itself is a different length, the Mustang rear spring is short like a Falcon. The Cougar uses the same length spring as mid size Fomoco products of the era like Fairlane and Cyclone.
No… Almost nothing about the rear leafs is the same as Mustang. Cougars follow the Fairlane line on these components, Mustang has more in common with Falcon.

Check with Fulcrum suspension. They were able to get leaf springs to suit my cars. I think they are early Australian ZA ZB Fairlane. Rear spring bushes are Jeep
Fulcrum would probably be able to recommend someone in Adelaide
Same with rear shocks. Use ZA ZB Fairlane - they are longer than Falcon
Hey thanks for the info, I just need to replace the bushes on the leaf springs front and rear, are they going to be the same as Mustang?
The shocks and springs are fine.

You might want confirmation from a Cougar expert, but the springs look to be the same width as Mustang ones so I don’t see why you couldn’t use the same bushes.
From previous experience, the fronts can be a bit of a pain to get out if they’re still the original ones but the shackles at the back should be OK.
Yep it turns out that the bushes are the same, now I am hunting a rag joint that is as original as possible.
The kit that I got locally is a bit crap. Any recommendations?

Don, any idea on a ETA on the rear leaf spring shackle bushes? Aussie Falcon rubbers definitely don’t fit and either do Mustang.
This part is delaying my putting the diff back in atm.
