Beautiful looking Cougar and a great looking restoration but to go that far and not keep the original special paint color of Coral Metallic, I’m not sure🤔… I’m sure the Carcoal gray will hurt the selling price somewhat… I’ll be keeping my eye on this.
Well, it’s in a modern non - color so maybe that would appeal to someone who thinks new cars are sexy in their silver, white or black. I’m old school - I like colors.
Personally, I think there are a lot of odd choices - 1967 exhaust system? 1969 bucket seats? 205-70R14 tires?
It’s all very high quality so it could be updated easily and still be a fairly valuable car.
I was trying to look up the original Ford custom color code of WT3833 but my (admittedly rough) google searches only show that code in the '80s. Was it similar to the calypso coral cars?
I came up with a reddish-brown color. Sort of like the stripe color used for the Cleveland Browns football jerseys except darker. The only name I could find was “Ford Brown”.
I like it! great updates but kept a lot of originality and very well done quality wise. Glad to see something a little different then factory perfect restoration everyone goes for.
Gotta say that dash is better then the standard xr7 wood grain too! Almost looks like its hydrodipped? very nice!
While the body color may not be original and hurt a value to some I think it fits this car well. Adds a modern touch to a classic but then again Im partial to this color as its the same as mine. Personally I dislike most colors the cougar came in anyway. To each their own but I would more interested in this one over a factory perfect car.
I would say it exceeds 30k. Would be hard to get there for 30k doing it yourself and this would make a great driver to someone wanting a great turnkey car
I just talked to the guy who built it and sold it recently for $32k. He regrets selling it. The new owner just did not like the old car driving experience.
“The car does not have a title, as it is registered in a state that does not issue titles for a vehicle of its age. It is being sold on its registration”
Would anyone know how this would affect importing it into Canada?
The Canadian side doesn’t much care too much about the registration side of it, but they will want to collect GST. It’s best if you go through a border broker as they should know exactly what you will need to get it into Canada and the taxes paid.
As far as what you will need to get it registered, depends on the rules in your province.
Thank you… I’m gonna give a broker a call in the morning to see what has to be done since there’s no title to this Cougar… USA customs requires a copy of the title at the border crossing 72 hours in advance before a vehicle is exported out of the USA… I used this broker back in 2018 when importing a vehicle from California.
It used to be pretty easy to do your own broker work and bring a car into Canada, but a few years ago a new reporting process went into effect and now you pretty much have to do it through a broker. What province are you in?
I sold a one owner, orig paint GTE in 1998 to a Canadian for what at the time was a lot of money. I go to hand him the title and he says “keep it, we do not use them”. I was shocked… Years later when he decides to sell the car the new owner in the US, he calls me very nervously asking “Did you happen to keep that GTE title?”
I’m guessing that you sold the GT-E to someone in Alberta. They can sell a car on a bill of sale, unlike most of the other provinces where you need a physical title.
