68 tach help needed

Removed the points for pertronics so ran a new wire from coil to ignition removing resistor wire ; how will I reconnect my tach to ensure it is working?

It should work just fine. All of them I have installed did.

Car starts and everything but the tach works

Sorry everything but the tach does not work

Well, let’s see what others say. At the moment I’m stumped. Oh, a question and I think I know the answer. Was it working before?

Factory tach relies on power to the coil coming through the tach and feeding the coil through the resistance wire. Sounds like you have bypassed that wiring?

Yes the resistor wire was cut and replaced with a straight wire to coil

Can I now install a wire from the tach straight to the- neg side of the coil

In order to do that, you will first need to convert your factory tach from two wire to three wire:

Did you change the coil? If not it is going to overheat and fail soon. The best way to do this is to run power to the Ignitor and leave the coil wire intact.
