Back around Mothers Day, I purchased a 1968 Lime Frost standard from another CCC member. It makes a great stablemate to our 1970 father-son project car with the added benefit of being my own.
Most of the folks here in the Puget Sound area are familiar with the car - A/C, tilt-away steering, automatic, 302 upgraded to a 4 barrel, black interior, and black vinyl top.
Unfortunately, two days before the CCC Prowl, the transmission started leaking fluid excessively. I didn’t risk taking it on the Saturday cruise and dinner, but we did take it to the car show on Sunday.
here is the Timberfrost all shined up for the Prowl in July
I’m calling it Timberfrost as a play on the Lime Frost color and the fact that we leave pretty far back in the woods.
here it is with all the other forest creatures
Unfortunately, the Cougar suffered another casualty in August. My oldest son’s 64 Corvette has a hardtop that is stored in a suspended harness in the garage above the Cougar. The harness failed and the top fell squarely on the hood of the Cougar. Amazingly, the Corvette top didn’t take any damage, but the Cougar hood was damaged beyond economical repair. There are multiple severe creases in the sheet metal, and the support frame on the underside of the hood is also creased.
So, in addition to all the little projects I wanted to work on, I now have two major projects - transmission and body/paint work.
I’ve picked up an AOD transmission which was coincidentally sold to me by the prior owner of the Cougar. A week ago, I picked up a new hood from WCCC while making a trip down to Eugene to pick up my wife’s project car from being hot tank dipped.
I’m thinking the transmission project will come first and then the hood replacement will follow. My long term goal is to take the car to Cruisin’ the Coast in Mississippi (hence the OD transmission).
I’m sure I will be asking LOTS of questions for those on here who have done an AOD swap.
