So my car was restored by previous owner a few years back and I wish he used the premium vinyl and not the cheap stuff. Now I have to pull it off and start all over after noticing a lot of bounce due to thin metal and the rust bubbling look from under the vinyl.
What a pain but I guess it could be a lot worse. Any better ideas for stripping all this Bondo? Using a combination of a 3m stripping wheel on my drill and a propane torch and scraper and still taking forever!
Sucks isn’t the word I’d use but yes it Does!! All the pin holes are right down the seam on only the passengers side so far. Looks like the previous owner did the vinegar water trick to stop the original rust and instead of repairing the holes properly he just added like an 1/8" thick coat of Bondo!
Wish I had a secret method to share. I removed the poorly installed vinyl on my 69 but there was not much bondo - just rattle can paint and several pin holes. The difficult part for me was removing the window trim. I did not replace the vinyl. Make sure there is some metal underneath the bondo!!! Good luck.
I use a 24 grit disc on my grinder, a small air powered one for small areas and a large electric one for big places. It will make a LOT of dust and dirt but you will have the job done very quickly, probably less than one hour.
