I got a good deal on a 8.8 rear end from a 98 Explorer with disk brakes and 4:10 gear and limited slip. I’ve been reading up on it and I’m new to all of this. Is this something that anyone has done here? Any good videos or advice? Any help or suggestions are welcome. Not sure if this is even the best idea for a 302.
Lots of Mustang guys have done this swap. Search Vintage Mustang Forum for similar changes.
its easier if you use a 8.8. from a fox body. buy 2 new axles with 31 splines and 5 bolt wheel pattern, swap in and set up the gears. cut oof the ears on the pumpkin and other mounts
quieter than a 9 inch and cheaper to swap gears still very strong.
87-88 Thunderbird Turbo coupes had 5-lug hubs and disk brakes.
87-88 Turbo coupes are 4 lug with disc brakes from the factory. Mark 7s are 5 lug disc brake.

I stand corrected. I thought that 5-lug wheels were part of the upgrades for the Turbo Coupes in those years.
For my 67 I am using an 8.8 from a 1986 Mustang. Width/offset is very close so no big issues with driveline angles. The explorer is similar width but the offset is much worse (can be cut and welded but why). Use the guts out of the explorer but check if the clutch pack is still good. Pinon shimming is a PITA however.
I swaped 8.8 from Explorer in my 68 without cutting tubes and it works great, perfect width. Parking brake cable is only hurdle
To help on this thread info for custom cables for disc brake/ swaps
Be aware the Explorer 8.8 axle housing actually has the differential off-center:
