68 Xr7 Oil Guage wiring

I guessing that the black wire held between my fingers does not belong.

Also, do the light bulb sockets just twist counterclockwise to remove?

Any tips, I hate breaking stuff.

The black wire doesn’t look like it belongs there.

Hard to tell from your picture, but is the black wire spliced into the red wire? It does not belong, especially if it is spliced.

Yes, spliced into red wire. I will remove it. Strange, on WCCC site I noticed their replacement pigtail is different color. Interesting.

Looks like the red wire has also been spliced into the original harness.
