This subject may have been touched on before, but I am still a little fuzzy on exactly where the measurement is being made. The convertible top manufacturers are stating that you should measure your top before it is removed. Well with all things it was taken off some time ago. Below is a statement that Apple’s AI pulled from the internet.
The 19" versus 20.5" measurements refer to the critical rear bow layout dimension used during convertible top installations to distinguish a Mercury Cougar from a 1969 Ford Mustang. The 20.5" measurement is the correct specification for the Mustang.
Installation Dimensions
20.5 inches: The correct distance from the top well edge center to the rear of the rear bow for a 1969 Ford Mustang.
19.5 inches: The corresponding measurement used for a Mercury Cougar (note: often referenced or contrasted near 19" depending on exact aftermarket pattern allowances
I watched a YouTube video of a guy replacing a top on a 69 Shelby. He made the measurement from the center of the inner edge on the stainless molding at the back of the Convertible Well, up to the center of the Rear Edge of the Rear Bow. Hopefully that makes sense. Not sure if this is correct.
So with the Cougar on a lower measurement it would make for a softer rake on the back window.
Could those of you out there that have a 69 or 70 convertible check this measurement and let me know what you have?
