69/70 headliner bow colors?

OK, Spent 1/2 hour trying to use the search features of both sites…no luck finding out the sequence of color/bows for the 69/70…

Got 5 bows, but they did not mark them.

Anybody got this info??

Thanks in advance!

Went to another car and pulled headliner to get the coeerct colors/size in order…

Thanks anyway

Post up what you found out, for the next guy?

Thanks Bill!

FWIW, I did a diagram for the 67-68 headliner bows to show the colors / sequence. I have no idea if it’s the same on 69-70, hopefully someone will chime in and we’ll know the answer. But according to what I found, this is the sequence for 67-68:

1 (front) - no paint mark
2 - red
3 - white
4 - brown

Yes! Please do tell! What about the next guy that searches this forum? Don’t leave them hangin! What year did you look at 1969 or 1970? From what we can tell 1969 is different from 1970 and they differ from driver side to passenger side to make matters worse! 1970 from front to rear “looks to be” Green / Purple / Gold / Red / Purple on the passenger side and all purple on the driver side. The Purple on the Driver side probably identifies it as Cougar. On 1969 models from front to rear they appear to “usually” be Green / Purple / Gold / Gold / Purple and again all Purple on the driver side. The only easy one to decipher is the 1969 and 1970 cars equipped with factory Sunroof. We can definitively say both years use Purple for all three positions. The reason I do not want to say that our findings are concrete is that we found variations. Most variations were obviously from cars that had the headliners replaced. There are no assembly manuals available for the 69-70 interiors as there are for 67-68 and 71-72. Please chime in with what you find on your car! I hate pulling down headliners on old cars…

I will be pulling the headliner and bows out from my 1970 next week and will post up what I find.

OK, Since I had a few sets most of them so rusty that there was no real color (or at least any a guy that’s border line color blind) I figured a fool proof way to figure this out for 69/70’s.

Lay the bows on a table and start w/ the shortest to longest. The short one is the front most and longest is the back one. The other issue is which of the 2 holes to use. I used “CSI” & found the hole(s) usually show some sort of wear/scratches. Now if we could get the repop Mfg’s to properly cut and sew them life would be great!!

Good luck!!

Bill

Doing a new headline on my 69 cougar what I found was all the bows on the drivers side were purple and the passenger side front bow is green 2nd bow is gray 3rd bow is gold 4th bow is gold and 5th bow is purple. Front one is the smallest 3rd & 4th one are the same size and of course the last one is he longest. Hopefully this will help someone else on there cougar headliner.
