So, Im a bit befuddled. 1969 XR-7 Mfg date 4/17/69. It had a red board that had bad contacts for connector. I replaced it with same new board layout. I had gauges, but after a few times running car I’m now with out gauges, no fuel, temp or oil. A black connector is factory, but conflicts with info out there on diff sites.
Any help would be appreciated!
Sounds like no power out on the IVR check for a pulsed 12 volts on the output and 12 volt constant on the input.
This is a common problem on all 69 and 70 Cougars and Mustangs. When one replaces the circuit card, you have to remove the nuts from the gauges, which allows them to move within the dash cluster. It is easy for one of the posts to short against the metal housing that they pass through, and you can’t see it due to the cardboard insulation pad, circuit card, and nuts. When this happens, all of the oil, water, and fuel gauges stop registering, as they are all tied together via the CVR output line.
How to check this is the case? Disconnect the CVR battery snaps and then measure the resistance between any of the gauge posts to the chassis ground. If you see about 1 (or zero) or 14 ohms, then one of those posts is touching.
How to fix? Wrap black electrical tape around each of the rectangular cut-outs that the gauge posts pass through to insulate the gauges from the chassis.
Hello Bill. To my knowledge, the Black plug dash harness for 69 XR7 is normally a full 18-pin plug and would mate to the Blue circuit board that is shown in your img-0512. The Red circuit board used for later 69 XR7 & Eliminator mated to the 17-pin plug that was White. And, I think this same (later) 17-pin red board carried over through the 70 model year for XR7 & Eliminator…
But, the 17-pin dash harnesses for late 69 & 70 models were not shared.
Midlife, Back in 2015, I believe you might have posted on www.69stang.com about creating a direct wire harness. Was that something you were able to carry through on?
Yes. I can do 69-73 Mustangs, and some of the Cougars of those years, depending upon whether I have already a dash cluster. See my website:

OK, a update, as the cat has now been on a trip to the Muscle Car Nat’s and then home to Des Moines Iowa. Ill have to do a write up on the issue, so stayed tuned!
Turns out it was NOT the printed board…
