Hello,
So I have a '69 XR7 with AC and when I recently replaced the heater core I found that the AC lines were very loose and there was nothing in the system. Is it possible at this point to just get a new filter drier and lines and put R134a in the system or should I go back to R12? If I should go back how much R12 is needed for the system? Thank you!
Not sure on the R134a question, but a NOS factory A/C system was installed in my car during restoration back in 1989-1993. It was never charged with R12. Fast forward to 2015, I had them change the A/C oil (it had oil in it, but the wrong kind), charge it up with R12, tighten the connections and it works fine. R12 wasn’t as expensive as I thought it might be. I think people over-hoarded it back in the early 90’s and now there’s TONS of it out there and hardly anyone who needs it. Trouble is finding a mechanic who still has the EPA license to do the work…
I have used FR-12 for years and it provides cold air at lower system pressure. No EPA problem.
