'69 Cougar Roadtrip!

@zman, just got out of Yellowstone after a 2 day stay! Blog will be updated tonight, and there is more good news: I’m going to be able to save all the Badland’s pictures that I thought I had lost due to a SD card error in my camera!

Thanks for following along!

Ken

Update posted, and I included a review of my current suspension setup.

Also, and I can’t believe I waited so long to do this, but I found a program that would let me map out all my planned stops on a map. The routes are computer generated and subject to change, but most of the points are pretty set.

Thanks for following along!

Ken - thanks for the updates - whats the program you are using that laid out the above trip?

Looks like you’ll be driving right by me on your 12th stop.

The website that I used to map out my trip is myscenicdrives.com. They have a roadtrip planner that lets you add as many stops as you need once you make a free account. It is slightly cumbersome to use, but it gets the job done and it’s hard to complain when it’s free.

@Cougars_R_Grr8 , that’s my Death Valley stop! Have any advice for visiting it?

Ken

Nice trip commentary. Reading along with great interest too.

The rattling in your passenger door…have you checked your latch screws? All three of mine were loose in my drivers door and it took me a while to find that little issue on mine. Just a thought.

@69XR7Ragtop , I’ll have to give them a look and let you know if it worked!

Also, made some slight alterations to the plans, so this is what the trip has looked like so far. That being said, don’t plan on these plans staying how they are, as it looks like the South East portion of my trip is about to change a lot! MTF on that one.

Ken

Blog updated posted. This one is shorter than previous ones since my drive was rather uneventful, and my destination was a suburb instead of a National Park

Thanks for following along!

Ken

Sent you a PM with phone number

Consider cutting across I80 to Truckee. Hit Lake Tahoe. Go down 395. On the eastern Sierra then pop into Yosemite.

Ed

Very cool! I imagine you are out of Portland by now, and probably stopped in at WCCC to check out “Cougar Mecca of the West”.

Sent you a PM, just in case you are still around and want to meet up for a few.

Mike B.

@Mike_B_SVT and @Sir Ed , sent texts to both of you. I hadn’t realized that WCCC was so close, so I’m definitely going to be stopping by tomorrow to see if I can pick up some weatherstripping for the bottom of my doors.

Definitely going to take your route advice @Sir Ed !

Ken

Had a quick visit with Ken on his way through.

I’m sure he will post better pics on his blog!

Ken

This is fun riding along with you guys. :+1:

Spoilers! Made it to Badwater Basin, the lowest and hottest place in the US!

Pretty cool, couldn’t even imagine my car ever making that trip!

@okrunman You never know until you try. Our Cougars are much more capable than we give them credit for!

Blog updated covering the night before that Badwater picture. Update for yesterday coming tonight!

Ken

Just posted the 19 July update!

Thanks for following along!

Ken

Enjoying following your adventure. Great job with the photos!

Can’t help asking why you didn’t pick up a fan shroud at WCCC? Might have made Death Valley a little less “exciting”.

Great to follow along on your trip!

I think of my '70 as being very reliable for a 50 yr old car but I get nervous driving it more than 20-30 miles from home. I can’t imagine taking it on a long trip.
