I’m taking my '69 XR-7 across America! If you want to follow along, check out the blog link below. I’m going to try to keep it updated as much as possible, and please let me know if it doesn’t work. I’ve never done something like this before with blogs, so feedback is always welcome!

Good luck, and have fun. What kind of road tunes are you listening to?

This reminds me of my trip a few years ago. Have fun and if you get to the west side of Washington state hit me up.

Sounds like fun.
I’ll watch for you in Wisconsin.

looks like a fun trip :sunglasses:

Magnificent! A new daily read.

Just updated! This link should bring you to all the post so I don’t have to post each day directly. I’ll still let everyone know when I post an update.

Kudos man, The art and beauty of a good road trip is lost on many people today. Let alone doing it in a classic car! I inspire to be able to accomplish the same in my car eventually

Very very cool - I envy you!

If you find yourself around the Blackhills (Sturgis SD area) you should check out Spearfish Canyon Road. Do aviod the big motorcycle rally dates of Friday, Aug 7, 2020 through Sunday, Aug 16, 2020. Generally motorcycles will be all over Yellowstone, Blackhills etc… In August as they move closer to the rally. Looks like you will be out west way before but I thought I’d mention it. The Blackhills area is very beautiful country with lots of cool roads. Keep an eye on gas stops though. They can get a little scarce out in the high deserts.

Thanks for all the goodwill, everyone!

@Gaugster : I’m in Pierre, SD, tonight, and heading to Badlands tomorrow. Spearfish is close enough to where I’ll be staying that I might just have to give it a try if there’s time!

Some of you may have noticed that I am posting tonight when I am supposed to be camping in Badlands… Check the blog for details on my first breakdown of the trip!

Spoilers: Fixed it!

Second for Spearfish Canyon Road, worth the side trip.

Great read. Keep up the great work!

This is SO COOL! Reminds me of when I was about your age and did a road trip from Colorado to Nevada & California. Nothing like being out on the open road driving a classic cougar. I was by myself, so I was left to my own resources if anything happened. Only thing I can remember is the fan clutch giving out in Nevada. Cruising along with the top down and listening to oldies on the radio, when I could get a signal, was pure heaven for me.
Everyone should have this experience if they can before it’s to late. Enjoy your trip!

I second the Spearfish canyon road. And if you can stop over in Wyoming at the Devils Monument.

Cool Trip, gods speed.

I have to put a plug in here for my favorite place on earth, Yellowstone, and, Teton National Park. If you get to Yellowstone, and have the time, Teton National Park is about a hour south of the south entrance to Yellowstone. I go out there at least once a year fly fishing and it is Gods country to me. Both parks are awesome.

You can keep heading west if you wish by going into Jackson Hole (way cool too) and go over the Teton Pass on HWY 22 into Idaho. About 1.5 hours from Jackson to the Major Freeways.

Good Luck,
Gary

Wow, I am envious of a roadtrip like this. Back in day, I’ve made a bunch of south Florida to New England trips in my 70 Cougar. Over to Michigan, down to Tennessee and such. Now, work keeps me on a short leash. I’m in the northwest corner of Massachusetts. Not sure how close you were to my location, but it would have been cool to have a Cougar drop in for a visit. Will you be back in time for Carlisle?

@SPLINEHEAD I’m headed to Yellowstone tomorrow! Blog is getting updated tonight!

Ken

We need an update.
Where are you at now.

Awesome! Very envious of your adventure!

If you end up in southern Idaho, be sure to check out Shoshone Fall ~ the “Niagara Falls of the West”. Well worth the stop.
