This rare muscle car was originally purchased by my great aunt in 1969 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She kept it in her garage, rode the bus to work and never drove in bad weather: a car collector’s dream. In her old age she bumped a few things and the center grille piece needed to be replaced. It’s still the only unoriginal part on the entire car. Despite her requests to be buried in it, the family opted for a more traditional casket and thus I inherited the Cougar in 2002. At that time I outfitted it with new tires, plugs, wires and a battery and moved it up to the Cleveland area. The carburetor was re-built in 2004.
I have added around 50 miles per year. I drive it very lightly, usually just cruising around the neighborhood when the weather is nice. I try to get it on the highway a few times each year and I run it in the garage on a weekly basis during the winter. The oil is changed annually and I use only premium gas. There are few things in life that we can really count on and starting this car is one of them. It has a few bumps and bruises, but the chrome still shines and the body is completely rust-free.
Also included are the original owner’s manual, a Chilton’s Total Car Care Manual, and documentation of repairs and maintenance. As is the case with many classic cars the sentimental value greatly exceeds street value. Unfortunately, with four little kids I no longer have time to enjoy it. Regardless of how much you end up paying for this car, it will be worth every penny.
