69 Eliminator speedo cable

I need to replace my speedo cable again, I broke the plastic clip where it snaps on the back of the gauge when I tried to disconnect the cable. I remember it was a real pain the last time I changed the cable! The car is a 428 4-speed, I have a new cable on the way, does anyone know how long the cable should be with a 4-speed? should I feed the new cable from the dash to the transmission or start at transmission to the firewall? last time I started at the trans. it was not fun trying to route the cable threw the firewall !

Thank you

Before you pull the old cable out, tie a rope on it. Then use the rope to feed it through, whichever way you go.

I will try that, Thanks so much

Looks like the cable is either 70" or 66.5" depending on your build date ( before or after 1/31/69 ). Have a look at the following chart from the MPC:

Looks like my car should take the 66.5" build date was 4/25/69
Thanks so much!!

The auto part stores generally sell the long one. It helps to leave the transmission connection until you have the cable connected to the back of the cluster in any case. The original was black plastic.
