Hi guys im working on my 69 Boss 302 Eliminator and i have a rear suspension question. My car was drag raced all of its life and the previous owner welded tabs on a set of lakewood traction bars for the shock to bolt to. The car has staggard shocks, but did 69 Boss Eliminators come with a rear sway bar? if so mine was thrown way when they added the traction bars. i also have a 70 Boss 302 Eliminator and it has the rear sway bar but id like to know for sure if my 69 should have one.
Thanks
Mike
I am pretty sure that the rear sway bars weren’t available until 1970.
I thought I remembered reading that for '69 they didn’t use a rear sway bar, but in '70 they did.
That sounds good to me. that means im not missing one! Thanks
I’ll second the 69s did not receive a rear sway bar. As I recall if you look on your rear frame rails you will see that they are not set up to bolt a sway bar to them.

This information is from the Boss 302 forum. FWIW:
— Quote from: jvkblue70boss on February 24, 2010, 01:29:21 pm —Just read all the posts on front and rear sway bar sizes. I dug in some old files I have and found a report from the engineers that did the development testing on the Mustangs. Initially the 1969 1/2 Boss 302 and Cougar Eliminator 302 vehicles were both released with 0.85" diameter front bars. On 3-21-69 a telegram from H. P. Freers directed a change to a 0.72" diameter front bar for the 1969 1/2 Mustang Boss 302 and to a 0.95" diameter front bar on the 1969 1/2 Cougar Eliminator 302 vehicles. These vehicles did not have rear stablizer bars.
For the 1970 program, as you all know, the rear bar was added for these vehicles. That bar was released as a 0.50" diameter for the Boss 302. With this rear bar added the front bar diameter on the Boss 302 was then increased to 0.95" to maintain front to rear roll balance. I found a 1970 Ford News Release dated June 13, 1969, which stated that the rear stabilizer bar was added to the “handling suspensions” for 1970. The rear bar was to be standard on the Boss 302, 428CJ, Boss 429 and Mach I models and part of the competition suspension option on 351-2V and 351-4V. It further stated, “The Boss 302 and 351 vehicles will use a 0.50” diameter bar and the 428 and 429 vehicles use a 0.62" bar."
Hopefully this information will help clarify Ford engineers’ intent. Any given vehicle could possibly have been built with different diameters bars due to a misbuild of course.
