69 front bumper removal

I want to remove my front bumper to get it re-chromed. In the past with most cars you remove it from the front frame horns and then remove the bumper form those brackets. I notice that on a Cougar there are only 2 upper and 2 lower bolts. Is there an easy way to get the upper ones off without removing a ton of trim. The lower ones look easy to access. Thanks

I suggest removing the lower valance and removing the bumper brackets. Once on the ground you can remove the bumper from the brackets. Opinions vary but this is what my experience is to get the bumper off with the least amount of risk to paint and the least amount of frustration. Once installed this tool really helps fine tune the alignment.

You can make your own for almost no cost.

Don’s way is easiest less risk. The best way to deal with the Cougar front end. Disassembly start at bottom work your way up. Assembly start at top and work your way down.
