I thought I was ready to pull my 69 out of the garage, I FINALLY got all the air out of my hydraulic clutch. Man, that was a PITA, for a few different reasons, but it feels and looks like it will work now.
Anyway, the switch, and the harness side are showing signs of heat and fatigue. I did a quick search for parts on WCCC and see one that has a crap face over it, and do not buy warning. So has anyone recently bought a new switch, (not the lock and tumbler, but the actual switch) and a new pigtail that they would give a good review on? I’m more concerned about the pigtail side, thanks!
I had the same problem. I bought a switch from O’Reilly manufactured by ACP. It is OK. I also bought the ACP pigtail and it was basically cheap junk. I put it in and ended up taking it out because my car would still not start. I finally got a decent pigtail from Summit Racing made by Mr. Mustang. It cost less than the ACP version and has much better construction and wires. The only problem is I had to modify the pigtail to use with my XR-7. Apparently the XR-7 does not use the regular Mustang switch wiring. Easy to make the mods I cut off the extra wire on one pin and soldered it onto the pin that needed two wire. Works fine so far. It is a bit awkward to make the connections under the dash since you have to solder the wires and use heat shrink on them. I crimped and soldered them to make it easier to do. The crimp holds the wire in place and the solder makes certain that it does not come loose later. Take your time and make sure you get the wires in the right place.
Thanks for that!
I find the NOS C8AZ-11572-A original switch and pig tail are usually available on eBay for pretty reasonable prices. Look for 1968 Ford Autolite ignition switch. Lots of them out there.
I replaced my ignition Switch, NAPA…over the counter. Same switch was apparently used on a lotta Fords

This is the switch and pigtail connector you need. This one is a little spendy, they come up often on eBay for less.

mlat3- is this the pigtail you were referring to?

I’m open to the auto lite option, but as I have the clutch bled in the 69 finally, (as always) the ignition switch is the next immediate problem. I’d rather not have to spend another month looking for an NOS part.
No need to spend a month- about 6 are listed on eBay right now. Switches around $30 plus shipping of $4 if you spend 15 seconds.
Woodsnake:
That is the pigttail I bought. As I mentioned I had to rewire it for my XR-7. I did not find any switch that did not need to be modified for my car.

As far as I can tell most of the aftermarket switches including the one at NAPA are the ACP switch–just different part numbers. It was decent quality. The reason I bought it from O’Reilly is they offer a Lifetime Warranty. Not sure if that really means much but it is something to consider.
I guess I should have been more specific- I was able to get the switch at auto zone, they had one locally for 20 bucks. I do more business at O’reilly’s these days, but they didn’t show one. The pig tail with the crap face product review that I saw on WCCC is what I was most concerned with. After reading this thread, I went ahead and got this one. I would have been ok with the Mr Mustang, but it didn’t show a ship date till the middle of May.

I did see another Mr Mustang pig tail for XR7 on the same summit page. I had a previously repaired harness in my stash I could have taken from, but didn’t want that many connectors on that switch. Probably would have been OK, but now I will have only one splice with a new Ford part.
I had to special order the one from O’Reilly and actually got the one for a Mustang since it is the same ACP part number. The picture of the switch on the Autozone website looked just like the one I bought. I guess I was lucky with the pigtail since it was in stock. The one on eBay certainly looks like it will fit. Good luck with your installation
