69 Mustang tilt away canister wiring question

To what/where do the 2 wires coming out of the tilt cable vacuum canister connect to. I cannot find any wires/fitting to plug the 2 wires into.
Any help?

You should be able to look at the wiring diagram in the shop manual. If memory serves me correctly their is a add on relay on the bottom of the fuss box for the tilt. Follow that back to find the plug in.

If you are referring to the two wires with a male/female combo connector that come from the vacuum motor, I believe those connect to the neutral safety switch wire that comes from the ignition switch. Should be a bullet connector on that NSS wire, disconnect that and plug each end into the vacuum motor wires.

I’m going from memory here, so double check the wiring diagram to be sure.

WOW! Talk about stump the experts with an easy one!!! Can nobody read a schematic??? You don’t have an electrical drawing??? Yet??

Those two wires connect to the “other” switch in the door jamb and serve to provide power to the vacuum actuator solenoid.

There should be a dimple in the door jamb near the stock courtesy lamp switch for you to use when installing the switch.

Cheers!

They do not connect to the “other” switch in the door jamb.
As MrEos stated, the canister wires connect to an inline pigtail that separates for plug in. It is one of the wires coming from the ignition switch.
Thank you MrEos.

69stang,

OK, we have a problem here Houston!

There are TWO DISCUSSIONS going on here, and both have been answered correctly…!!!

But terminology is slightly off. The two wires you speak of are on the vacuum actuator motor. It is not vacuum canister. That lives out under the battery tray,

GAH posted a pic of a 69 wiring harness with two wires circled:
In the FIRST TOP PICTURE the two wires in the red circle DO GO TO THE OTHER SWITCH IN THE DOOR JAMB…see my other post a couple up.
This did not answer your question correctly!

MrEOS did reply to your post correctly…
THE CONNECTOR (Red/Blue wires) on the actuator “motor” indeed DOES CONNECT TO WIRING TO/FROM IGNITION SWITCH as mentioned. The tiny switch inside this vacuum motor serves as an IGNITION INTERRUPT so that you are unable to start the car with the tilt wheel in the “away” position!

I responded to GAH’s incorrect answer (to you) regarding the two wires circled on the wiring harness picture…intending to correct/prevent someone from going down that rabbit hole of a wrong direction. I did not elaborate on MrEOS’s correct answer to you, as it was indeed correct! Hopefully that is now clearer…

Just as an FYI,
You do not need to connect the car ignition wiring to this vacuum motor connector if you want to have the option to start the car with the wheel in the up-away position. The sensitivity of this switch is adjusted on the under dash bracket at the end of the activator cable. There is a 5/16 hex head screw and a slotted hole on the cable retention bracket. If your starter does not engage with this wiring all connected up, then this cable adjustment could be incorrect. Look for marks on the bracket where the screw head tightens down and reuse that location, as it is likely where the factory put it…unless it is all boogered up from prior monkeys!

Hope I got all of that properly! My apologies for any confusion.
Cheers!
Steve
