Anyone know when the finned aluminum CJ valve covers were first used on 69’s? Did San Jose use them at all in their limited 69 production?
Thanks in adveance,

Remember/consider that this detail (chrome verses Aluminum valve covers) is not a assembly plant specific detail. Valve covers would have been installed at the engine plant but when a specific change was incorporated into car production would be specific to each plant since it was not a result of a a warranty, recall or other issue
Will have to look through my documentation to see if I can get an approx date it was incorporated at San Jose
Thanks Jeff! Just curious if ANY 69 San Jose R codes received the finned covers in such a limited production frame.

Ok check my pictures but don’t know (sorry don’t spend that much time on the Cougar side of things) when Cougars stopped being built at San Jose in 69. Only have a handful of those cars and the latest one I have was likely built in Nov 68
As far as the change over from chrome to aluminum valve covers in production engines in cars appears to be late Jan -first weeks of Feb 1969. Of course Ford documents call out a change date but it took time for the changes at the engine plant to be done and those engines make their way through inventory to the car plants and into cars
Hope this helps
