69 Shock Towers into 67 Help

Greetings all, this is my first post here in the forum. I’ve owned my 67 XR7 since last October and haven’t wasted any time tearing into her. First step is all the metal work it needs which includes replacement shock towers. I bought some factory 69 cut outs from WCCC since they advertise to be a direct swap and upgrade without modifications required. After I got the first shock tower out and did a side by side comparison, the 69 shock tower is 1” taller on the back side measuring from the top of frame rail to top of fender apron. Looking for a little guidance on this one to see where I’m going wrong or if I just have the wrong parts.

Welcome to the site! You picked the right place to gain information like this. It is not the shock towers that are the issue rather the 90 degree connecting plate at the top that ties into your aprons. You will have to reuse your 67-8 lower profile parts.

Thanks for the quick response Don, I did leave you a voicemail about this. Maybe I’m just naive, I thought these were a direct replacement without modification unless those upper apron plates and spring perch are not considered part of the shock tower. This is my first go at metal replacement on a car so it’s a learning experience for me.

Yes, tower is the same dims and yes all parts welded to the tower are different. We should make our listing more clear, thank you for pointing that out.
