69 Style steel wheel paint number?

Need the paint number for the 69 style steel wheel (charcoal). I want to buy it in a quart, so I need the number for the local paint supply store.

I thought the '69 wheels were chrome, or argent?

More of a lighter charcoal color.

That would be Dark Argent. There was also a light Argent - like the spokes on painted Magnum 500s. Ford used to sell rattle-cans of both in the parts department. Dark Argent part # F6AZ-19K207-AA.

As for a paint ‘code’, I have seen several different numbers - 32600 and 33053. The 33053 number was cited in a Mustang Monthly article.

Eastwood may also carry it

Wife’s '70 Mach 1 has lots of dark argent trim. I’ll be needing a quart or two myself when the time comes to restore that car…

Thanks, the 33053 is a ppg number that calls it medium grey poly. That crossed over to a DuPont number 9426. I’ll get some mixed next week and see how it looks.

That dark argent paint part number was replaced with PM-19K207-AA. You can still buy that in spray cans from your Ford Dealer for about $15 for a 12 or 13oz can.
I just bought a can a month or so ago, thinking it was the light argent ~ the description is simply “Ford Argent”. I’ll have to compare it to my wheels, but it strikes me as being too light. I also recall it ended up having a bit of texture to it, and if you check the description is talks about “stone peck”. I’ll have to do some test spraying and check it out…

Ok, did a test spray of my can of PM-19K207-AA. Definitely too light for the wheels.

I’m actually Ok with the argent if it turns out a lighter color. Real easy to add some black and tint until it matches. Main reason for buying it in a quart vs a spray can plus the durability is better. Try a test spray on a piece of scrap metal vs cardboard. The cardboard will absorb the paint and change the color as well.

I just grabbed what was handy. I’ll have to scrounge around for some scrap metal ~ I am still building up my collection of miscellaneous pieces parts

OK, good news bad news. The 9426 Dupont number only comes in a vinyl spray, but that number crossed over to 31516A enamel only it is gloss. So, I got a pint and added 25% flatter to take some gloss away. It mixed up way to light, so I got some black tint to see what I could do with it. My first spray after adding some tint was way to light. I went real heavy with the tint on the second spray about a 1/4 pint using all I had. Still not dark enough and not a match to dark argent. Don’t go this route for dark argent. I think I would go with a quart from Eastwood doing it over again. OK that is the bad news.

Good news is I really! like the color I ended up with against the med green poly paint on the Cougar. It’s only paint and wouldn’t be that big of a deal to change later to stock if I decided too. Here are a couple of pic’s of the wheel and trying to decide what center cap would look good. Also considering the repo black center cap with the running Cougar.

Y’know, with all the various “charcoal gray” colored cars that are out there right now, and the multiple different “dupli-color” cans in those shades, you would think that something would match up.

My repro wheels don’t look like any of those colors…

PS…I really like the look of the lighter glossy gray
