'69 Vin Tag Restoration

I know this is one of those almost “tabu” things to do, and I am more inclined to leave it alone, but…

What’s the best way to restore / repaint the VIN Tag under the windshield? Is there a legally acceptable method?
If not, what would be your advice for giving it a good cleaning without messing up the faded and failing security hatch paint on the face?

It just seems like a shame to have a totally repainted / restored car with everything looking awesome except the dirty faded old VIN Tag.

Here’s a place that restores tags http://www.datatags.com/. I’ve never used them, so I don’t know what there process is or how much it is. Good luck. John

This is what I used and with some careful trimming after applying the decal, the result is very pleasing/passes muster. In short, the ECI approves of this item.

That decal piece looks very nice! I knew y’all would have the answer for me. :flash:

Thanks for the assist.

If you use the decal trim the inner and outer edges. The outer so that no material sticks out past the metal and inner so that the clear plastic tries to conform over the debossed letters and numbers - which it will not.

Used one successfully on the last Shelby I did
