Is there a difference between ‘69 and ‘70 rear wheel lip mouldings?
If so how would one tell?

Yes, the 70 wheel opening is larger then a 69. You can make the 69 molding fit a 70 as the difference isn’t that great. 69=C9part number, 70=D0 part number.
Yes, there is a difference. The 70 rear molding is longer due to the 1" larger wheel opening. The 69 molding will leave part of the wheel well metal showing if used on a 69.
**Looks like Brian and I were posting at exactly the same time.
The 70 rear lip used elongated holes to compensate for the larger wheel opening. Had you have gone to the dealership in 1970 for a service replacement rear wheel opening moulding for your 69 they would have handed you a D0WY service replacement part.
So if the wheel opening is larger in 70, I guess the quarter panels are different between 69 and 70? I had no idea!
and trunk pan
Also side rocker mouldings. About an inch shorter than 1969 rocker mouldings.
So the 69 & 70 convert’s are also different? Inners are they different too?
Both years inners got the BFH treatment
Bill,
correct, the inners are different as well. Had a 69 inner and welded to a 70 outer. Couldnt figure it out why it was not fitting well to the curve of the trunk floor area.Had to cut and stretch and weld up, didn
t like the way it came out , then got a complete 70 quarter for my car and fit like a glove .
thanks

Yup, I could not figure out how the top of both rear inner wheel housings got dented downward on my 70 convertible. Finally realized it was a factory beat-to-fit process. Wonder if the Mustang convertibles have the same “feature”?
They do…
