70 cougar signal switch

Ordered signal switch turns out plug is different than one in car everything else fits says its fir an 88 f150 i see now both gave 10 wires but plugs are different abd different coloured wires how do i know which ones to wire to old plug?

I think it would be a good idea to return that one and order one for a 70 Cougar. WCCC and many other vender have them.

That 1988 F-150 turn signal switch would more than likely have had a part number of E7TZ-13341-B ( maybe A ), and your 1970 Cougar should show:
Fixed column (1970-72 ) ( p/n: D2AZ-13341-C ) with the harness tag showing: D0ZZ-13B302-J or D0ZA-C,D1AA-AA, AB, AC, CB or D2ZA-AA, AB.
Tilt column ( 1970-72 ) ( p/n: D2AZ-13341-D ) with the harness tag showing: C9ZA-13B302-B,F,K or D0AA-K, M, T or D0ZA-D or D1AA- BA, BB, BC or D1ZA-AA, BA, ED or D2AA-BA, BB or D2ZA-BA, BB.
I agree with badcatt, return the truck turn signal switch and get a Cougar specific one, no amount of ‘wire matching’ is going to get that part to work on your Cougar.
