70 front bumper bracket color

I know this question has probably been answered somewhere, but I can’t find it. So, here it goes, what color are the front bumper brackets supposed to be on a 70? Flat black, satin black, Mary Kay pink, Avacado green? Mine are covered with Ziebart and rust.

The one that’s on mine appears to be flat black; the missing one which is now supplied by WCCC is “rust” colored - I was going to match it to the existing one. It will be interesting to hear what “should be”.

Dearborn built 10/13/69

That looks like maybe a 50+ year old weathered satin? Also looks like they tapered off at the end and didn’t paint it and left it bare. Any other opinions or observations? Thanks for the pic!

My 12/8/69 Dearborn built also has low gloss black on the bumper brackets. Outsides have undercoating on them, so the pic is inside view.

Those brackets were originally coated with a low gloss black paint. They were dipped originally with the parts being hung to dry overnight. It wasn’t the best way to paint parts but it was good enough to keep them from rusting when the car was brand new.

Here is the driver side before cleaning. Note the ty-loc holding the vacuum line. These are from the “Waco” Eliminator, so yes, untouched from factory.

Dipping at the factory probably required less time and care to make sure all surfaces got coated.

So, is the end of the bumper bracket where it bolts to the car more rusty because it didn’t get fully dipped, or maybe just because of more abrasion over the years from rocks thrown up from the front tires?

Also worth noting that the factory low gloss black was actually a little bit less glossy than satin.

No telling but nowdays the part would be sprayed and done completely so it is a dumb question.

I was just trying to resolve the earlier questions:
